A Clearly Impossible Prediction!

Under Glass is based on a classic principle of magic introduced by Paul Curry and U. F. Grant over 75 years ago. There was a baffling stage version of this trick that required some rather unusual equipment, and some aspects of the presentation were problematic. But now this effect has been reimagined as a close-up miracle with normal looking props and streamlined handling!

You introduce a beautiful acrylic poker card case holding a red deck and a blue deck of cards. You ask the spectator to think of any card. Once they have a card in mind, you open the blue backed deck and show that all of the cards are blank. The spectator takes one of the blank cards and mentally projects a picture of their chose card on the blank face. Then the performer takes the card and tries to discern the mental image that the spectator has visualized. You write a prediction on the card and cleanly drop it into one side of the open poker card case.

In order to make sure that the spectator doesn't forget their card or change their mind, you spread the red backed deck and ask the person to say stop when they see their card. Then you cleanly drop their selected card into the other side of the poker case and flip the lid shut. The predicted card and the selected card are side by side in full view inside the case. The two cards have been handled in an extremely fair manner, and now both of them are Under Glass and cannot be tampered with. Flip the case over and the impossible happens! The written prediction is an exact match for the card that the spectator had visualized!
